Devotional - busyness is an idol
"This is what the Lord says: 'What fault did your ancestors find in me, that they strayed so far from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.'" - Jeremiah 2:5 (NIV)
“Sometimes busyness can be a means of hiding our negligence.” said Lecrae.
Being busy can pull away from the important things or activities in life. I have the tendency to always want to do more. To optimize every second that I have available (as I write this I realize how pathetic this sounds). Even as a mom. Am I falling for the trap? Keeping busy for the sake of being busy?
I know where it comes from. Busyness is an idol.
In general, the majority of people find meaning in it, but especially (secular) entrepreneurs fall for it.
We think it’s necessary to be busy in order to achieve something.
So it becomes a standard. Without wanting to admit it, we feel proud of being busy because it aligns with the expected image; the busy entrepreneur. ‘Cause; if you’re busy, you must be important or else you wouldn’t be busy.
Well, what does God say? Is hustle something we need to do?
Or is this a belief from the world?
We have to make sure we don’t follow worthless idols just because the common belief tells us so. We shouldn’t make busyness a priority, resulting in negligence of what is actually important and worthy of spending our time on. What makes us worthy too!
How do you look at busyness? Anything that spoke to you?
