devotional - From meek to mighty
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. – Matthew 5:5
Hi,
For the longest time, I wondered why the “meek” would inherit the earth.
When I think of meek, I think of spineless or weak people who let the stronger ones march over them.
They are the kinds who keep their mouths shut while the “Dominants” are talking since their comments wouldn’t really make a difference anymore in the course of action.
And hey, as a person with a record of little confidence, I would consider myself one of the meek.
I would be the one at the meeting—mouth shut—but gladly helping out one-on-one as I consider that also a loving way of working.
Which it is.
But then I found out that meek rather means gentle.
Gentleness…
…gives a sense of tempered strength.
Like when Jesus cleared out the temple.
He did that in a gentle way but it was tough, disciplined, and powerful.
Hah! That’s a different kind of meek.
So instead of thinking being meek is about a humble attitude to a degree you’re disregarding yourself, I can go with Jesus’ tempered strength.
Showing tempered strength a.k.a gentleness in business is taking responsibility and not letting anyone mess with your values.
It means stepping up your game and speaking up when it is required.
What do you think about that?
We operate in God’s economy, not that of the world, so His rules apply!
That means we ought to work as meek, powerful people, with a promise of inheriting that Kingdom.
Isn’t that motivating to work?
Pray with me:
Father,
May my gentleness be just like Jesus—loving, yet tough, disciplined, and powerful. May I receive more of the Holy Spirit, growing the fruits (Gal. 5:22), so that I can be a solopreneur in Christ’s likeness more and more every day?
Amen.
Blessings,
