A way to seek God's guidance in business
As a Christian solopreneur, you probably don’t want anything else than to follow God’s guidance.
But sometimes it seems that guidance is nowhere to be found.
→ Perhaps you have to make a decision and you don’t hear an answer.
→ Perhaps you lost clarity on the goal(s) that you were pursuing and can’t seem to get it back.
→ Perhaps you just want confirmation whether or not you should work on something specific but you only hear crickets.
If you need to seek God’s guidance, here’s one way to do it.
A way to find God’s guidance
Journaling, have you ever heard about it?
You probably have.
That’s one of the ways to find God’s guidance.
You don’t have to be a writer to begin journaling. You can use crooked sentences, word clouds, or keywords to ask the Lord for guidance.
The idea behind journaling is that by writing your thoughts and prayers down, you can track the process and progress that you’ve made in prayer.
How do you journal?
Step 1
Let’s say you want God’s answer on deciding whether or not you should continue investing time in a specific social media channel—Facebook in this case.
Grab your journal and create a heading saying: Facebook, yes or no?
Then start praying about it.
It’s up to you how much of that prayer you want to write down. It can range from a couple of words to the entire prayer.
If God is already speaking to you right then and there, write down what God says.
Step 2
Since you’ve written your prayer down, it might be more at the forefront of your thoughts throughout the rest of the week.
God is going to talk to you in some way, but in what way?
Be open to hearing God’s voice.
It might be through a Bible verse, it might be through others, through books, songs, in nature, etc.
Every time an answer or some type of progress into figuring out the answer is given, grab your journal and write it under that heading.
It could be something like: Ben (another solopreneur) sent me an article on Facebook marketing. Perhaps God is nudging me to get a bit more educated on the matter before I make a decision.
You’ll do this until you can conclude what God’s answer is.
Step 3
How long God will take to answer is always unknown.
It might be minutes, it might be days.
But believe God will answer. God wants to guide (Psalm 32:8) you along your entrepreneurial journey. He has made you an entrepreneur for a reason.
At some point, you will see, based on your journaling, how God has spoken and what direction to take on your Facebook issue.
With full confidence, you can make your decision and move on.
Seeing how God spoke
Using journaling to seek God’s guidance is just one way.
There’s nothing more special about it than any other way.
But the true benefit of using journaling is that the progress is visible and can be kept for the future.
It is proof of God’s voice in your life, answering prayers.
In Jozua 4:7, the Israelites are asked to collect stones and place them close to the Jordan to remember what God did for them.
That’s what journaling about your prayers can do for you too: it creates memorial stones. It will remind you that God once spoke, and so He can do it again. Which is especially needed in rough times.
Prayer journals or just a plain notebook
The equipment that you need is simple:
Pen and paper or a digital device.
Some people like to go digital, others like analog.
Now, there are prayer journals on the market and they might be helpful, but you don’t need to buy one if your budget doesn’t allow it at the moment.
A plain notebook or just a simple piece of paper, and a pen, will do the trick as well.
The only advice is to store your journal in a place it can’t be lost.
We don’t want our memorial stones tucked away in a spot they can’t be found, do we 🙂.
