Devotional - looking forward
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor." (NIV)
Isaiah 61:1-3
Hi,
It’s true that I’ve never experienced a year like this.
There certainly have been unprecedented challenges, sacrifices, and loss, but in many ways, 2020 has been one of my best years ever.
From a personal perspective, this year has given me the opportunity to slow down, become more intimate with God, and let Him teach me what really matters.
As an entrepreneur, amidst the initial panic, the subsequent “pivoting” and the eventual discovery of what God was showing me through this experience, I learned that my “calling” and God’s plan for my business/ministry is much more simple and fulfilling than I could have imagined.
No doubt, 2020 was HARD but, as Paul said: “Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us” (Philippians 3:13–14 NLT).
I find that very comforting and extremely motivating, don’t you?
As Christian entrepreneurs, “looking forward” into the New Year symbolizes the dawning of new possibilities, new hopes, new ideas, new dreams, and the promise of the new opportunities God is calling us to discover.
Will it be easy? Probably not.
But, as He has proclaimed the Year of His Favour, we can take comfort in the good news, which God has promised us. Instead of getting stuck in the past, or being fearful of an uncertain future, He is calling us to “press on” toward the abundant life Jesus came to give us and to live out the calling God has placed on us.
As you consider what the next 12 months will bring, what are you looking forward to? Who are you putting your trust in?
With love,
