Do you love yourself? The key to a successful business

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.  — Mark 12:30-31

Hi reader,

No, this is not a blog about self-love.

What I mean by that is that I don’t advocate for the self-love the world portrays.

—For which you have to love yourself to pieces for the things you accomplish or say or do.

Self-love doesn’t have to be focused on the self.

The self-love I strive for is the understanding that you can love yourself because you are God’s creation. And what God creates is good.

That’s why the verse in Mark commands us to love ourselves.

All my life, I have found teachings that greatly emphasize the ‘love your neighbor’ part of this verse.

Hardly anyone ever mentioned the ‘love yourself’ part.

It’s overlooked, but it’s very needed.

Definitely in an age where social media is present in our lives for hours a day, and the battle of comparison is ever-present.

When you are in entrepreneurship, loving yourself is also vital.

For 2 reasons:

  1. One of the keys to a successful business is confidence. If you don’t believe in yourself or your business, why should a potential customer?

  2. How can you love someone else correctly if you don't love yourself? In other words, how will you treat your customer well if you can’t love yourself? (Especially if they’re annoying, demanding customers ;))

If you want to build a successful business as a solopreneur, ensure you are confident about what you do and who you are. And make sure that you present that to the outside world.

Don’t fake it. If you aren’t confident, go back to the drawing board. Study the Word and see (and proclaim) what God says about you.

When confident, don’t brag but do what Mark 12:30-31 says. Your confidence—you loving yourself—leads to treating people with excellence

If you love yourself;
if you see how perfectly God created you;
if you see what a masterpiece you are, you take care of it and treat it the best way possible.

Now, that’s a great way to approach working with clients, isn’t it?

See how God’s Word is genius? Also, when applying it to business?

I encourage you to analyze your self-love (the Biblical one ;)) in relation to your business. Do you have a steady foundation to rock your business this year?

Dear reader, let’s make this a year all about others. Let’s help others because we love ourselves in ways that show that love.

Blessings to you,

Jane
