One Simple Question to Find The Right Focus — BtF’s Devotional
Jesus replied, 'Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.’" — Mark 1:38
Read time: 2.5 minutes
Hi Reader,
Have you ever thought about this? → Even though there wasn’t advanced technology in Jesus’ time, He was familiar with distractions trying to demand His attention.
In Matthew 12 we read that Jesus’ mother and brothers asked for His attention, but He didn’t give it to them. He was in the midst of talking to the crowd and didn’t see any reason to stop.
In Mark 1, everyone was out and about looking for Jesus (He’d probably been away for quite some time). And once found, He responded, “Let’s go to other places to share the news since that is why I came.”
Jesus knew what He needed to focus on and what His priorities were; therefore, He didn’t bow to peer pressure. Or the fame that He got. Or other distractions.
I bet He wouldn’t have been glued to His phone, too, and ignored incoming calls, stopped watching a binge-worthy TV series at the right time…
Jesus kept His eyes on His calling.
He mastered the: Must I Do This Now? Method.
Do you know it?
You ask yourself 5 times: Must I do this now? — and put the emphasis on a different word each time. That way, you quickly eliminate tasks and gain focus.
MUST I do this now? (or don’t you? Did you tell yourself it was a must while it isn’t?)
Must I do this now? (or can someone else do it better? Delegation is a good thing.)
Must I DO this now? (or shouldn’t you do it? Perhaps it doesn’t need to be done.)
Must I do THIS now? (is this the right task to focus on now?)
Must I do this NOW? (or can it be done later? Is this what brings you closer to your goal best?)
So Reader, what can you take away from this little devotional with a very practical note?
What distraction is God asking you to deal with today? What does He want you to focus on?
Let me know!
Blessings,
Jane
