Devotional - The Untapped Treasure: Stillness🌳

READ TIME: 2 minutes

"He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'"  — Psalms 46:10

Dear readers,

We live in a fast-paced world that constantly demands our attention from family obligations, our businesses/work, community work and with the rise of social media , we now have become a scrolling generation.

How do we navigate the challenges and storms of life?

Who do we run to in our low moments?

One of the things I’ve observed with the Christian men and women of old was their intentional effort to be alone with God. Whether walking in the forest or beach or sitting in a closet in their homes, they tapped into the safe space of God’s presence.

Stillness is a lost treasure today and worth bringing back to our minds if we are to practice trusting God.

Stillness means -

  • Being silent before God; feeling reassured that He will do what He promised. So rather than complaining and grumbling, we are encouraged to be silent before God. — Exodus 14:14

  • To sink down and relax knowing who God is. We are often plagued by so much fear in this world and the Christian ought to fear nothing because we know who our God is — Psalm 46:10

  • To rest before God and wait patiently for Him. This removes worry and drives us to prayer.

  • Be calm and at peace. It is the same word used by Jesus in Mark 4:39. When the storms and battle of life rages, Jesus comes on the scene to bring calm and peace.

Reader,  when was the last time you were truly “stilled”?

How often do you take time to be alone with God?

I pray that we all will become people of stillness that draws on God for all of life.

Blessings to you,
Trish
