Which one are you? Entrepreneur, Manager, or Technician?
READ TIME: 2 minutes
Dear Reader,
As a business owner, you often face many key decisions to drive business success.
To thrive in your business means you work “on your business” not “in your business”.
How does this play out?
The book, “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber gives a good overview on how to achieve this successfully.
One of the main ideas from the book is that anyone going into business, or running a
business, often carries three roles:
1. the Technician
2. the Entrepreneur
3. the Manager
Knowing the difference among all three roles that you take on, will make a world of
difference in how you navigate your business growth.
The Entrepreneur is the visionary and dreamer of the business,s and catalyst for change.
The Manager is the organizer, planner and sticks to the status quo.
The Technician is the doer and happy to check things off on a to-do list.
Research shows that most small business owners are only 10% Entrepreneur, 20% Manager, and 70% Technician.
Be intentional with adopting an entrepreneurial perspective on the business so you can develop systems and processes that will drive business results. This means looking at the business in its entirety from start to finish and implementing changes that will drive growth.
This mindset allows you to envision the business to where you want it to be and then working your way back to the present to make it happen.
Lastly, a huge part of this will be having the right people around you to bring your vision
to reality.
Running a business can be challenging, but being intentional with your vision and
being a lifelong learner will help build the foundation for a successful business.
Blessings to you,
Trish
